Sandy and I visited the farm in late April this year to walk the land and do a little birding.
Site of the old homestead is flanked by several windbreaks that have been bird magnets.
The 15-acre pollinator habitat was just beginning to produce new growth. You had to get down close to the ground to see it, though.
There are four or five mystery birdhouses scattered around the farm. We don't know who put them there, but thanks to whoever was responsible!
A ritual for every farm visit is to run the spigot down in the old cattle yard. Cold, sweet Ogallala aquifer water.
